New Year, new experiences!

New year, new Erasmus; and let’s be honest—who doesn’t get a little thrill just hearing the word? It’s a magical mix of learning, experience, and making memories you’ll talk about for years (and bore – or excite – your friends with forever). Erasmus isn’t just about “hitting the books” in a different country—it’s about embracing new cultures, probably instauring new friendships and/or relationships with anyone and maybe even discovering your new favorite dish (its probably going to be paella).
Today, on December 5, 2024, we received the exciting announcement about this year’s Erasmus destinations, and… the students will be divided and headed to Málaga, La Coruña, and Santiago de Compostela in Spain! But here the question is… what makes these places special?

Málaga: An Artistic and Hot Place

The first place is Málaga, a Mediterranean gem where the sun shines 320 days a year (yes, you read that right). The place is pretty well known as the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, and because of this, the city offers a mix of artistic heritage and also beachside relaxation.
Speaking of dishes, Málaga is a dream come true. Get ready to taste espeto de sardinas (grilled sardines) by the shore or enjoy a glass of local moscatel wine.

La Coruña: History Meets the Atlantic

Next we’ve got La Coruña, a coastal city in the northwest of Spain that will charm you with its history and dramatic ocean views. Known for the Tower of Hercules, the world’s oldest functioning lighthouse, this city is the perfect blend of ancient and modern.
La Coruña is also a paradise for seafood lovers—think fresh octopus, clams, and mussels that taste like they were caught a few minutes ago. Walk through the Plaza de María Pita, the city’s heart, and also forget to explore the Riazor Beach if you’re up for a scenic landscape.

Santiago de Compostela: A Pilgrimage of Beauty

Last but not least, we have Santiago de Compostela, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the endpoint of the Camino de Santiago pilgriimage.
The highlight? The Cathedral of Santiago, a masterpiece of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque architecture that will leave you breathtaken. Santiago is also alive with vibrant streets, lively cafés, and Galician specialties like pulpo a la gallega (Galician-style octopus) and tarta de Santiago, an almond cake that’s pure bliss, since the best thing here—talking about food, is sweets.
It’s Worth It.
If you’re looking for a mix of culture, sunshine, and unforgettable experiences, this year’s Erasmus destinations have you covered. Málaga brings the laid-back beach vibes, La Coruña serves up history with a side of Atlantic breezes, and Santiago de Compostela offers a journey into the soul of Spain.
So, one thing is certain: this Erasmus is worth it.
